The Mooncup is a reusable menstrual cup made from soft, silicone rubber. It is very simple to use, worn internally like a tampon, but collects menstrual fluid rather than absorbing it. Unlike tampons, the Mooncup is not a disposable product so you only need buy one!
The Mooncup will hold 30ml of fluid roughly 1/3 of the average total produced each period. A light seal is formed with your vaginal walls allowing your menstrual flow to pass into the Mooncup without leakage or odour. You'll probably find you need to empty your Mooncup less frequently than if you were using sanitary napkins or tampons.
It doesn't interfere with your healthy vaginal environment nor has it been associated with toxic shock syndrome (TSS). Toxic Shock Syndrome is a rare but sometimes fatal disease. Tampon related TSS was identified in 1980 when a number of deaths were directly linked to a specific brand of super-absorbent tampon, subsequently withdrawn from sale. The Mooncup is unlikely to cause irritation and is suitable for women with sensitive skin, thrush, eczema or allergy.
It can be used overnight, is great for sports, swimming and travelling.
Caring for your Mooncup
The Mooncup is simply emptied, rinsed or wiped and re-inserted. It can be cleaned in the same way as baby equipment; with sterilising fluid, or by boiling for 5 mins in a pan of water. With proper care your Mooncup will last for several years.
Which Size?
The Mooncup is available in two sizes:
Size A measures 46mm in diameter and 50mm in length. Size A is recommended for women who have given birth vaginally or who have had a caesarian section and aged 30 or above.
