Forget any images you might have of bulky, oddments of rags that women might have used for their monthly periods in days gone by.  Poppy Pads are certainly very different.   Made in New Zealand by ourselves (we are a small family run business) Poppy Pads are are our own unique design, developed over time, tried and tested by voluunteers.  They are slim, discreet, comfortable, reliable, easy to use, and come in lots of fun, colourful and stylish prints, organic fabrics too!  There really is no need to add to the mountains of rubbish, to endlessly throw away money with disposable pads or tampons.  They are a healthy alternative for your most sensitive parts too. Once you’ve got your set of washable pads they are good for at least 5 + years (or 100 + washes - we've tested them).   

Poppy Pads have been made using only the best of modern fabrics fabrics suitable for the purpose.  They won't let you down.

Styles and Sizes

There are a variety of styles and sizes to choose from depending on your requirements and flow rate.  Poppy Pads are used for heavy discharge, periods, urinary leakage and postpartum days.  The different styles are as follows:

• By popular request- NEW Panty Liners - Thins.  They are18cm in length and provide a soft, comfortable, protective, extra cover for your underwear.  They can be worn every day or just occasionally for light spotting or discharge. Panty Liners -Thins are constructed from 3 layers of absorbent brushed cotton but please note that they do not have a hemp/cotton core or a leakproof layer as in all our other pads.  Go for Panty Liners-Light Pads if you require something more substantial. 
• Panty Liners-Light Pads (18cm in length) have 100% cotton covers, an ultra absorbent hemp/cotton layer and a leakproof layer too (PUL). They provide a soft, comfortable, protective, slim cover for your underwear. They can be worn every day or just occasionally for spotting or discharge. They are great as a 'just in case' when expecting or finishing your period , as a back up for your Mooncup etc.
• Both Thins and Light Pads are now available in G String style too!
• Regular Pads are great for an average, light to medium flow.
• Super Pads are good for a medium to heavy flow
• Both Regular and Super Pads are available in two lengths (a choice of either 22cm or 26cm) The choice of length is entirely a matter for personal preference.  Both lengths are as effective but simply that some people feel more secure with a bit more length. The width of both pads is 7cm expanding to 8cm
• Extra Duty Pads have even further layers of absorbency for heavier duties.  They have extra length (30cm) and the rear is wider than the front where absorbency is often needed for heavier requirements eg. extra heavy periods, at night, postpartum requirements etc.

Please note that pad widths are standardised to fit the majority of women most of the time but if you wear eg. fuller briefs or briefs that have an extra wide or extra narrow gusset you might like a slightly wider or narrower pad . Just state this in the comments box when placing your order and we will contact you and size accordingly.   There is no extra charge for this. Consider Poppy Pads' greatest features:

• An all-in-one style just like disposables.  There are no liners to change, no need for any reconstructing after washing or, bits to lose.  Just wash and wear them - couldn't be simpler than that!
• Only natural fabrics have been used, wherever possible, so Poppy Pads are unlikely to irritate our most sensitive parts.
• Pad covers are 100% cotton and come in a wide range of fun, funky, floral or plain prints. Organic fabrics too.  Something to suit everyone's taste!
• Pads have an ultra-absorbent hemp/cotton core.  Beautifully soft,  but chosen specifically because it has far superior absorbency and, durability.  As hemp/cotton is capable of absorbing copious amounts, less fabric is needed and pads can be efficient but, without the bulk.  As a porous fabric, it breathes easily  allowing a good circulation of air and, is quick drying.  It has strong anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties - little chance of odour or thrush type infections here!  Hemp is so durable it tends not to wear out but to wear in becoming more absorbent still with age and through use.  Cultivation of hemp doesn't require the use of herbicides or sprays and it is good for the soil in which it grows.  Hemp has a short growth cycle and it conditions the soil for future crops with its long root systems.  Nature's greatest choice!
• Pads have been given a leak-proof layer for added security and peace of mind.  PUL (Polyurethane Laminate) is waterproof, thin, durable and a 'quiet' fabric.  It breathes, so you won't feel sweaty or itchy as with plastic backed pads neither will you make those crackly noises when changing pads out and about - a couple of snaps and nobody is any the wiser!
• Extra length wings snap easily around your underwear, keeping your pad securely in place, moulding to your shape and, catching the flow with ease.  No slipping or bulking up here!
• A choice of 2 snap fasteners allow for both narrow and wider panty gussets.
• A choice of pad length depending on how secure you like to feel.
• Different levels of absorbency (Panty Liners, Regular, Super or Extra Duty) cater for the lightest to the heaviest of periods, the occasional heavy discharge, postpartum days, or light incontinence.
• Pads are fun, colourful, easy to wash with your other laundry and, suitable for use by teens and women of all ages.  A great choice!  Who said periods have to be dull!

Poppy Pads for Stress Incontinence

We have developed a range of pads that are specifically suited for use by women for stress incontinence/urinary leakage.  We had been aware for a while that a large number of women use Poppy Pads successfully to manage stress incontinence.  However,  we were also aware that we are often asked to make Panty Liners  longer than our current ones but shorter than the Regular Pads for use for stress incontinence..  We were also frequently asked to quantify our pads for absorbency for urinary loss to assist women to decide which absorbency would be best for them.  We knew that we weren't always as helpful as we could be!  So, we decided to do a trial to standardise the pads for urinary loss and to quantify absorbency levels.

We  had a group of women who volunteered to trial pads and to then provide feedback (Enormous thanks to them all!).  This has now successfully been completed and Panty Liners for urinary leakage/stress incontinence have been added to our list of products within the online shop .  You can also look at the Stress Incontinence section for further information.
